MATCH WRAP

Perth Scorchers have secured successive Big Bash League titles with a final-ball win over Sydney Sixers in a thrilling final at Canberra.

Moises Henqirues squandered a run-out chance to take the contest to a super over as Yasir Arafat hit the winning runs off the final ball of Brett Lee's career.

Lee had previously taken two wickets in two balls when the Scorchers were tied on Sydney's score of 147, which was made possible by 77 from Henriques.

Keeper-batsman Ryan Carters joined his skipper in a stirring fightback, combining for a 98-run stand that set up a competitive total.

In reply, the winners made a slow start, but were well served by Shaun Marsh and Michael Klinger who put on 70 for the first wicket.

The required run rate crept past 12 an over.

However man-of-the-match Marsh hit boundaries when it mattered, and finished with 73 from 59 balls.

Nathan Lyon grabbed two wickets in the 19th over to ensure a nail-biting finish.

Nathan Coulter-Nile slogged a six off the final ball of the 19th to leave Perth requiring eight off the last, and England batsman Michael Carberry bravely ramped Lee for to the boundary off the first ball to reduce Perth nerves.

It was almost a fairytale end for Lee, but Henriques' missed run out ultimately cost the Sixers a chance to take the game to a super over.
