The home side took a 2-0 lead in the four-match series at The Gabba, courtesy of a four-wicket success.
India's fielders became involved in some verbal jousting with Johnson during Australia's first innings, before the left-armer went on to make 88 from 93 balls and propel the hosts to 505 in reply to India's 408.
That lead enabled Australia to set up the victory, with Johnson ripping through the middle order in the second innings.
Ahead of the third Test in Melbourne starting on Boxing Day, Hazlewood believes India's tactics failed to have the desired effect.
"It backfired at The Gabba with them trying to get stuck into us and Mitch fired back," he told reporters.
"It was good to see him pick up some wickets in the second innings and really fire up and bowl fast.
"It's a good spot to be in at 2-0 at this time of the year. If we can crack them right open early we can drive the game forward towards 3-0."
Hazlewood enjoyed a fine Test debut in Brisbane, returning match figures of 7-142, but he remains wary of the threat posed by India with the bat.
"This one will be different again, but it's always our goal to take 20 wickets," he said.
"They're a class batting line-up, but whether they get starts or not we're looking to keep bowling well to them all the time, keeping them tied down, and looking to take wickets throughout the day."
