Jordan: Pitch, ball worked in England's favour

Chris Jordan - Cropped

England seamer Chris Jordan said conditions suited the bowlers, as the tourists took day one honours in the second Test against West Indies.

Jordan (2-40) was the only multiple wicket-taker as Alastair Cook's men reduced the hosts in St George's to 188-5 after 70 overs.

Early rain, and bad light late on Tuesday, restricted the day's play, but Marlon Samuels (94 not out) was the only batsman to get well on top of the bowlers.

Jordan said Cook's decision to bowl was vindicated.

"I found that the pitch had some decent carry in it," Jordan told ECB.co.uk.

"The ball swung for the majority of the day. It wasn't too abrasive so we could keep the ball in a good condition.

"And when we did get the ball in the right areas we posed a lot of problems for their batters.

"Hopefully we can do a little bit more of the same tomorrow and make some inroads into their tail."

Jordan lauded all-rounder Ben Stokes, who picked up his first Test wicket since taking five against India at Lord's - the same match in which he made a pair - in July.

"He is an aggressive bowler and he is exciting to watch," Jordan said of Stokes, who went wicket-less in a Test match for the first time in the series opener.

"I'm glad obviously he could get that first wicket today which will relax him as well. Hopefully he can go on to get a few more."
