Johnson takes dig at England

Mitchell Johnson took a dig at England's much talked about "aggressive brand of cricket" after putting them in deep trouble in the second Ashes Test at Lord's on Friday.

Paceman Johnson took 2-16, while Mitchell Starc (1-29) and Josh Hazlewood (1-22) claimed a wicket apiece as England slumped to 30-4 in reply to 566-8 declared after Steve Smith (215) had scored his first Test double century.

Alastair Cook (21 not out) and Ben Stokes (38no) showed some resistance to move the hosts to 85-4 at stumps, but they trail by a mammoth 481 runs with three days still to play.

There had been plenty of talk of England's positive approach paying off before and after their first Test win in Cardiff, so Johnson challenged the hosts to go on the attack again after his impressive burst in the evening session.

"England will be looking to get a good sleep tonight and then look to dig in. Hopefully they'll play that aggressive brand of cricket they've been talking about," he told Sky Sports.

Johnson, who claimed the key wicket of the in-form Joe Root, reflected on a job well done after tea and praised Smith after his outstanding knock.

He said: "It's a nice picture to have after day two. The batters set us up and the bowlers come out and did a good job.

"The boys have done well, we have started this match pretty well after the disappointment of Cardiff. We knew we would have a bit more of a chance here with a wicket that would have a bit more bounce and that slope."

When asked about Smith's brilliant innings, the left-arm quick added: "He's definitely got confidence.  He doesn't walk around like he's the number one or number two batsman in the world.

"He comes down early and gets in the nets to practice, as Root does as well, and I'm really proud of him."
