Jesse Ryder hits commentator Ian Smith’s car with a six

Jesse Ryder

Smith, a veteran of the commentary box, was calling a game in Hamilton when Otago Volts batsman Ryder smashed a six into the car park and onto his car.

“It’s on my car!? It is. I think it hit my car,” said Smith as the ball sailed into the carpark.

“I don’t believe it. The downside of getting a park so close.

“It’s a rental. I don’t believe it. I think it’s mine. For God’s sake Jesse.”

Smith’s fortunes were at odds with one lucky – and very skilful – punter who took this screamer and pocketed $5000 at the same game.

What’s more remarkable is the bloke who took the catch and batsman are brothers-in-law. The batsman, Michael Bracewell, is the nephew of New Zealand cricketing great John and current Black Cap Doug.

Smith will be more wary of where he parks his car ahead of this weekend’s round of matches which get underway in Dunedin and Christchurch on Thursday.

In Christchurch, top of the table Canterbury take on second-placed Northern Knights.

Ryder’s Otago Volts have lost all four of their games so far and sit on the bottom of the table but are favoured to beat Central Stags who have lost two from two.

The only Friday night game sees third placed Auckland host fourth placed Wellington at Eden Park before the Aces play Central on Saturday.
