ICC confirms Kamal resignation

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed the resignation of Mustafa Kamal as president with immediate effect.

Kamal hit the headlines when he criticised umpiring decisions made in Bangladesh's Cricket World Cup defeat to India, before slamming the ICC for not letting him present the competition's trophy to winners Australia.

During the latter outburst, Kamal also promised to reveal "mischievous" goings-on within the ICC.

That theme continued when he announced his resignation to reporters on Wednesday, accusing unnamed ICC officials of "polluting the game".

Nevertheless, when the ICC confirmed Kamal's departure later in the day, they insisted the decision was made on "personal grounds", adding that he "had no complaints to make against anyone".

In their statement announcing Kamal's exit, the governing body added: "The ICC board will now consider the vacant position of the ICC president at its forthcoming meeting in Dubai on 15 and 16 April."
