Huss: Vics not waning

Bushrangers star David Hussey has dismissed suggestions the Vics are on the wane after they surrendered to the Warriors by 241 runs in their Sheffield Shield match at the MCG on Saturday.

Set 450 to win and playing a man short because of a hand injury to all-rounder Andrew McDonald, the Bushrangers were bowled out for 208 just after tea.

It's the first time in 15 years that Victoria has lost successive Shield matches at home.

"That's nasty and it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth, but we're going to have a chat tonight," said Hussey in the rooms afterwards.

"We're pretty determined, I think resilient is the word that we're going to use."

"We're defending champions so we want to defend our championship and hopefully we can do that later on in the year."

Asked whether the Vics' golden run, which has delivered the state the past two Shield titles, was coming to an end, Hussey declared: "It's not over yet, no way."

"We've got some talented youngsters coming through and we get Cam White and Clint McKay back in next game so hopefully that strengthens the line-up."

"I think we've got a lot of good cricket to play."

"We've got Queensland here in a one-day match then the Shield game starts on the Friday."

"We're going to have to really dig deep, but I think we play our best cricket against Queensland."

"Hopefully that's going to be the turning point and we can get rid of all this complacency and start playing some good aggressive cricket again."

Hussey confirmed that all-rounder John Hastings who batted with a runner on Saturday, was in doubt for the Bulls clashes because of shin soreness.

"He's had ice packs on his leg all day yesterday and today so I think he's battling," Hussey said.

Hussey, who top-scored for Victoria in their second innings with 57 before being caught behind slashing at Michael Hogan, said the Bushrangers' goal had been to outlast the Warriors, but they never came close.

"We looked at the longer picture rather than the shorter picture," he said.

"In the dressing room we're stroke-makers and I wanted to bat the whole day."

"That was my plan and got out to one of my favourite strokes was very disappointing."
