Hughes to 'forever remain 63 not out'

Hughes passed away on Thursday as a result of the injuries he suffered after being struck in the neck when batting for South Australia in a Sheffield Shield contest against New South Wales on Tuesday.

The left-hander had made 63 runs when he was hit, with the match subsequently abandoned as the seriousness of Hughes' condition became apparent.

On Sunday, when Hughes would have turned 26, Cricket Australia confirmed that he will no longer be listed as 'retired hurt' on the official scorecard.

"The match was abandoned following Hughes' injury and, given he was not replaced at the crease by another batsman, the official scorecard has been altered to show him as 63 not out," read an article on the organisation's website.

Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland added: "It might seem like a little thing, but it's an important distinction.

"Phillip will forever remain 63 not out."
