MORE: Shane Watson axed for second Test at Lord's

Haddin warmed-up with the team for the Australian’s main training session on Tuesday morning (English time), but withdrew from the session shortly after.

He was seen talking to the team psychologist and Australian coach Darren Lehmann on the Lord’s balcony, with reports suggesting the 37-year-old looked dejected.

Cricket Australia stressed that Haddin had not been dropped from the side, and that the decision to withdraw was made strictly due to personal reasons.

Haddin’s withdrawal opens the door for rookie keeper Peter Nevill to make his debut for Australia.

The 29-year-old impressed during Australia’s tour matches prior to the start of the series, and will be required to perform immediately if the Aussies are any chance to level the series at 1-1.

The news comes amidst speculation that Shane Watson has been dropped from the side that went down to the Poms by 169 runs, making way for young all-rounder Mitch Marsh to come into the side.

There are also question marks over the fitness of Mitchell Starc, following a foot and ankle injury he sustained in the first Test in Cardiff.

Starc played through substantial pain, with coach Darren Lehmann suggesting that unless the spearhead is 100 percent fit, he will not be picked in the side.

The left-arm quick bowled off his full run-up during the team’s major training session - positive signs for the Australians heading into the Lord’s test.

Should Starc not pull up, young speedster Pat Cummins is expected to take his place in the side in what will be his first Test in nearly four years.
