Haddin confident of turnaround

With the Ashes on the line heading into the third Test, Australia wicket-keeper Brad Haddin admits the side hit rock bottom during the Adelaide debacle and shamed the legendary baggy green cap.

Writing on his personal blog on the eve of the WACA Test, the Aussie gloveman said the innings and 71-run defeat in the second Test was unacceptable and a repeat would not be tolerated.

"The 11 players who took the field in that clash didn't play to the high standards we have set for ourselves and the standards that the baggy green deserves," Haddin said.

"The second Test was rock bottom. We all agree what was served up last week simply wasn't acceptable."

"(The baggy green) is a symbol of honour and integrity, something every little boy strives for in the backyard and something we didn-t do justice to during the Adelaide Test match."

"It is unfair to single out any one player or group of batsmen, bowlers or fielders (but) the honest appraisal is the performance of all - including wicket-keeper - wasn't good enough and has to be rectified."

Despite the poor display, Haddin is adamant the Australians can turn things around and win the third Test to keep their Ashes dream alive.

He revealed the mood in the camp remains positive despite the criticism levelled at the side - and the national selectors - this summer.

"We look at this Test in Perth as an opportunity to start again," Haddin said.

"(It's) a fresh beginning and a chance to prove to all that we are a much better cricket side than we have shown in recent weeks."

"The attitude around our training over the past few days in Perth has been first class."

"We have complete confidence the group we have here is capable of turning the tide very quickly."

"We now have three matches to prove to those outside the group and, most importantly, ourselves that we can, and will, do whatever is required to ensure we bring the urn back to Australia."

Haddin also defended skipper Ricky Ponting, who faces losing the captaincy should he oversee a third Ashes series loss

Haddin declared: "Ricky has been incredible in my time with the Australian team and no more than during this current series."

"While the unwarranted pressure grows from the outside regarding his captaincy and position in this side, he has been an inspiration to us all with his ability to block all of this out."

"(He continues to) help around the team and refus(es) to be affected by what is being said."

"One of the major factors behind our confidence is the attitude and belief of our captain."
