Martin Guptill showed no signs of struggling against the pink ball as he struck a century against a Western Australia XI in Perth.
New Zealand's preparations for the first-ever day/night Test in Adelaide saw them enjoy a productive day in the field on Saturday, before getting some valuable time at the crease 24 hours later.
Guptill took full advantage with a blistering knock at the top of the order, the opener hitting 12 fours and four sixes on his way to 103 before retiring to give other batsmen a chance in the middle.
The tourists finished the drawn match 426-11, after Western Australia scored 345-13 on day one, with BJ Watling (81 and 18) and Brendon McCullum (49) both showing they are in form ahead of Friday's third and final Test.
"It was nice to spend a bit of time in the middle, and to finally get a couple balls out of the middle of the bat," said Guptill. "So I'm looking forward to getting into it [the Test]."
Guptill scored at nearly a run a ball during his innings, but captain McCullum was at his destructive best with his 49 runs coming off just 28 deliveries.
It boded well for the Black Caps ahead of next week's historic event, but Guptill says they are not treating the game any differently to a normal game and remain unsure how the pink ball will behave.
He added: "It's no different to a normal Test, every test we go into excited about getting there. The guys are going to have a couple of days off, a couple of days training and we'll be ready when Friday comes.
"It [the ball] was pretty much as we expected it to behave, there were few went sideways and up and down on the wicket today but that’s the wicket not the ball.
"It is probably worse when you're fielding but you've just got to deal with that, it is nothing we can control so we just have to get on with it."
