Gillespie: Choosing Bayliss the right decision

With Trevor Bayliss named England's new head coach on Tuesday, Jason Gillespie says his compatriot is the right man for the job.

Yorkshire coach Gillespie held talks with England over the role, but confirmed on Monday that he was "not the preferred candidate".

That person is Australian Bayliss, who has enjoyed limited-overs success with Sri Lanka, as well as in the Big Bash League with the Sydney Sixers and the Indian Premier League with Kolkata Knight Riders.

"England wanted a coach with a proven track record and if it is Trevor Bayliss, as it appears likely that it is, his track record's absolutely unbelievable," Gillespie told Yorkshire's official website.

"I've got absolutely no qualms about that.

"If I put myself in Andrew [Strauss'] shoes, I'd probably make the same decision, if I'm honest."
