Freddie drops the C-Bomb: Andrew Flintoff's Big Bash gaffe

Andrew Flintoff

Flintoff has been something of a revelation for Ten Sport in the commentary box and his banter while being miked up and playing out on the ground has been fun to listen to as well.

But this time around, as Flintoff failed to nail a cut shot, the stump microphone clearly picked up the former England captain swearing at himself, broadcasting it into tons of Australian homes at dinner time.

The reaction on Twitter was instant.

Flintoff’s potty mouth and potential fine was another kick in the guts for the 37-year-old over the weekend as he failed to get the Heat over the line, despite hitting 46 off 32 balls.

The Brisbane side could only manage 6-147 though and the Sixers cruised to victory – appropriately by six wickets – with 14 balls to spare.

Brisbane’s fifth loss of the tournament ends their chances of playing in the Big Bash League finals.

Flintoff’s gaffe was another note in an interesting weekend for Channel Ten in regards to their commentary and Big Bash coverage.

On Saturday night during the Stars dramatic three-wicket win over the Melbourne Renegades, the network had Kevin Pietersen – a commentator for them during some games – miked up throughout.

During the game, Pietersen made several candid admissions, saying he’d be happily play for the Prime Minister’s XI against England if he was selected in place of the injured Mike Hussey.

Pietersen also had a vigorous debate with commentator Adam Gilchrist over wicketkeepers producing dubious appeals after Matthew Wade called for a catch that had clipped the pads.

In some extraordinary commentary, Pietersen was busy clubbing balls while discussing some of Gilchrist’s appeals during the 2005 Ashes series while simultaneously taking runs.

And Pietersen couldn’t help but have a dig at Flintoff’s bowling either during the game.

“He’s bowling backwards (at the moment),” declared KP.

“I’d bat against him without pads and with a toothpick,” he added.
