Father Time fails to weather the elements

The famous weathervane at Lord's, Father Time, came close to meeting its end over the weekend as it was damaged by high winds.

Father Time, which sits on top of the Mound Stand at the ground regarded as the home of cricket in north-west London, has been given a new perspective after being bent back at a 90-degree angle from its original position.

Specialists are working to restore one of the venue's most distinguishable features to its original position as soon as possible.

Father Time, given to the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in 1926, has survived adversity before. It became entangled in the steel cable of a barrage balloon during World War Two before being wrenched from its position at the top of the Grand Stand.

It was duly reattached but was struck by lightning in 1992 prior to being moved to the Mound Stand in 1996.
