Indian captain MS Dhoni paid tribute to Cheteshwar Pujara and Murali Vijay following his side's second-Test win over Australia on Wednesday.

India's seven wicket win in Bangalore sealed a 2-0 series sweep and condemned the Australians to a third consecutive Test defeat.

"Pujara played really well. He got a tough ball first innings and he played very well in the second," Dhoni said.

"Vijay has always done well whenever given opportunities. He carried on this time."

"It helps that he was batting with Tendulkar who is a great reader of the game and advices."

Dhoni said he was proud of the way his team stuck to their plan despite Australia getting off to a good start in both Tests.

"In both games the first innings was high scoring and it changed in second innings," Dhoni said.

"In India you can just lose a Test in two sessions. You need to play well in all the five days."

Pujara, who scored an assured 72 in the second innings to help the hosts chase down a target of 206, only found out he was replacing stalwart Rahul Dravid at number three on the morning of the final day.

"Obviously I was a bit nervous," Pujara said. "I was told this morning that I would be batting at number three."

"I told myself I wanted to be in the present. I had practiced enough and if I looked at each and every ball, each and every over, then there is no pressure."

The 22-year-old was also grateful for some advice from champion Sachin Tendulkar that helped calm his nerves as he headed to the crease.

"(Sachin Tendulkar) told me that 'you might be nervous, just enjoy it, don't try and overcome it, it will go away when you spend a few minutes at the crease'."
