England captain Alastair Cook has been fined 40 per cent of his match fee by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after pleading guilty to overseeing a slow over-rate during the fifth Ashes Test.

The hosts were found to have been two overs short of their target following the dead rubber at The Oval, which they lost by an innings and 46 runs having already secured the urn.

The rest of the England team have been fined 20 per cent of their fees, with no formal hearing necessary after Cook pleaded guilty.

"In accordance with Article 2.5.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount," an ICC statement read.
