MATCH REPORT: Pakistan spinners seal Aussie defeat in Dubai

Clarke's men stumbled to a 221-run defeat in the opening match of two as Pakistan spinners Zulfiqar Babar and Yasir Shah claimed nine of the Australian second-innings wickets to fall.

The tourists' batting performances - they were dismissed for 303 and 216 - suggested plenty of hard work lies ahead between matches.

And Clarke said: "Want to use our bat a little more. We knew spin would play a big part, but a lot of us got out to balls that didn't spin.

"So we want to get into the right positions [when we're batting against spin]. We can turn it around, definitely.

"We've got the talent, the attitude and I'm sure you will see a different team in the next Test."

Australia's batsmen could take inspiration from Pakistan's Younis Khan, who hit centuries in both innings in a batting masterclass.

Clarke added: "Pakistan deserve credit. Younis showed how to play spin and reverse swing.

"Any time you make 400-450, that helps the bowlers put pressure on the opposition. Our bowlers had to work hard on a flat wicket on day one."

The second Test gets under way on Thursday.
