Chanderpaul, 40, has been in dominating touch, with his unbeaten 63 in the second innings of their second Test in St Lucia taking his average in his past 11 innings to 120.
But the 157-Test veteran deflected away from his own starring form, hailing debutant Johnson and Blackwood - in his third Test match - for their performances in the series finale.
Blackwood is unbeaten on 43 overnight with Chanderpaul, with the pair set to resume with the score at 208-4 - the Windies a commanding 427 runs in front.
Johnson, replacing Chris Gayle at the top of the order, made 66 and 41 in his first two Test innings in a promising start.
"From playing back home for GC, he played for my club back in Guyana, you know you've been doing well from since way back then," Chanderpaul said of Johnson.
"He kept it going, he took it onto the Guyana team, and the [West Indies] A team, and himself and Blackwood were the two players who have been knocking at the door for a while now.
"And I'm really happy to see he got the opportunity to play, and he got some runs behind his back also.
"This is only something setting up for the future for him, and I'm hoping he can go on from strength to strength."
On Blackwood, he added: "His way has been positive, I've tried to encourage him to stay positive but not to go at everything.
"When it's close enough for him to play his shots, play his shots.
"He batted really well, given the circumstances we were in, at a stage we were losing wickets. It was top class."
Blackwood came to the crease with the Windies struggling in their second dig at 100-4, but he survived 96 deliveries and helped contribute to an unbeaten 108-run stand.
Chanderpaul said he wanted the Caribbean hosts to chalk up some more runs before they try to bowl out Bangladesh a second time to sweep the series.
"Definitely, we're looking for some runs to declare and give Bangladesh the bat," he said.
"We're looking to go and see if we can bowl them out the second time around, give our bowlers enough chance to rest."
