Brandon Starc emerges from Mitch's shadow

Brandon Starc - Cropped

Mitchell Starc's brother will bid to outshine the Australian cricketer, after being named in Australia's squad for the IAAF World Championship in August.

High jumper Brandon Starc, 21, was busy qualifying himself for the track-and-field world championships in Beijing while Mitchell was bowling Australia to a Cricket World Cup victory - and earning man of the tournament honours.

Brandon is bound for his second world championships after posting a personal-best 2.30-metre leap in Sydney on March 14 - having competed in Russia in 2013.

The 2.3m leap came on the same day Mitchell tore through Scotland in a World Cup group game, snaring figures of 4-14.

Brandon went on to win a national championship in Brisbane later in March, with a best mark of 2.28m.

At the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014, Brandon posted a 2.21m jump in the final - shy of Canadian gold medallist Derek Drouin.

Brandon's win in Sydney also saw him turn the tables on Drouin ahead of Beijing.

All that's left for little brother Brandon is to do the same on Mitchell.
