BCCI should snub West Indies - Thakur

On a controversial day that saw the BCCI announce the Caribbean cricketing nation had withdrawn from their series hours before the fourth one-day international, the two camps were at loggerheads with the remaining games of the tour in severe doubt.

The West Indies immediately denied pulling out of the tour, and participated in the ODI in Dharmasala - which India won by 59 runs - although the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) are set to meet to clarify their position.

West Indies players are in conflict with the West Indies Players Association, regarding alleged unauthorised cuts to player payments.

The playing group threatened to strike prior to the first ODI earlier in October but the series has continued on.

"There was dispute between West Indies players association and West Indies Cricket Board," Thakur said.

"West Indies players refused to play the ODI and from this morning at 6am to 11am they were refusing to take the field.

"At around 11.45am I visited them in their hotel room and urged them to play the match.

"First they said no but after prolonged discussions they agreed to play the match.

"I think it's unfortunate if a team pulls out from middle of a tour. Such an incident creates dissatisfaction among cricket lovers and it's a big blow to the organisers also."

Thakur also threatened to abstain from organising matches with the West Indies in future, and claimed the WICB will owe the BCCI compensation for lost revenue - with one ODI, a Twenty20 international and three Tests still to play.

"The BCCI will have to bear a huge lose if such tours are cancelled," Thakur said.

"It also affects cricket if big teams pull out from such tours.

"For the future tour programmes, the BCCI should not play with the West Indies.

"They should also file a claim for compensation with the WICB for the amount of revenue they are going to lose.

"The Indian board should also lodge a complaint with ICC against West Indies, so that such things should not happen with any other nation."
