Australia name inexperienced squad for Bangladesh tour

Usman Khawaja and Joe Burns have both been recalled to the Test fold, following impressive flurries in form of late.

Tasmanian quick Andrew Fekete, and West Australian opener Cameron Bancroft are the only uncapped players in the 15-man squad.

The tour will be Steve Smith’s first full series as captain, while Adam Voges has been named his deputy after an injured David Warner was forced to withdraw from the tour.

Stephen O’Keefe and Glenn Maxwell will vie for the all-rounder position, with the squad boasting only 242 combined Test caps.

Smith however, is confident that Australia will be able to get the job done in the sub-continent, with this group expected to take the Australian Test side forward in the future.

"For me, winning away from home is something that I’m looking for," Smith said.

"A lot of the teams around the world have played well at home but haven’t travelled well.

"That’s going to be something we’re going to try to rectify and that starts in Bangladesh.

"One word I’m going to be saying to the boys a lot is 'adapting' and making sure we’re able to adapt to the conditions we are faced with.

"And that’s different whether it be Edgbaston or Lord’s to the MCG or Chittagong.

"Making sure we adapt to the conditions we’re faced with and make sure we’re preparing well for everything we’re going to come up against."

Australia will face Bangladesh in the first Test in Chittagong, starting on 9 October.
