Australia claim T20 series whitewash

Australia T20

The win completes a 3-0 series whitewash and improves Australia's tally of victories against the Old Enemy this summer to 12-from-13 matches in all formats.

England's horror tour has also included a 5-0 Ashes defeat and a 4-1 ODI series loss.

Hungry to finish on a winning note, Australia piled on an imposing 6-195 after winning the toss and electing to bat.

Skipper George Bailey top scored with a whirlwind 49 not out off 20 balls that included 26 runs off Jade Dernbach's (0-49) final over.

The writing was on the wall early for the tourists, who reportedly chartered a flight out of Sydney on Sunday night.

They lost dangerous openers Luke Wright (eight) and Alex Hales (six) cheaply and the steady flow of wickets continued as the visitors capitulated for 111 to end their tour on an ignominious note.

Glenn Maxwell (2-31), Nathan Coulter-Nile (2-31) and James Muirhead (2-13) picked up two wickets apiece to complete the lop-sided win in front of an appreciative 48,762 crowd.

The hosts made a measured start to their innings as Cameron White (41 off 37) and Aaron Finch (30 off 21) added 48 for the first wicket before the latter spooned a catch to mid-wicket.

Maxwell (14 off seven) came and went quickly before pinch hitter Ben Cutting (29 off 16) and White added a quick-fire 53.

Cutting was brilliantly caught and bowled by Joe Root (1-13) to trigger a mini collapse as the home side lost 4-21.

But Bailey and Matthew Wade (19 not out off 10) quickly wrestled back momentum with a rapid and unbeaten 56-run stand to set England an imposing total.

Bailey thrilled the ANZ Stadium crowd in the final over, going four, six, six, four, four, two, to destroy Dernbach's previously respectable figures.

England skipper Stuart Broad (3-30) bowled well for the tourists while debutant Chris Jordan (1-23) was also excellent in both of his spells.

England were immediately on the back foot in their run chase, losing both openers cheaply.

The hole got deeper when all-rounder Ben Stokes (five) skied a catch to Cutting off Maxwell next over.

Root's painful innings of 11 off 21 balls ended when he was caught on the boundary by Cutting.

Any hope of an England victory evaporated when the dangerous Jos Buttler (eight) and Eoin Morgan (34 off 20) holed out in the deep in quick succession to reduce the visitors to 6-82 in the 13th over.
