Ahmed relishing Ashes opportunity

Fawad Ahmed hopes to realise his dream and pull on the baggy green cap of Australia during the upcoming Ashes series.

The Pakistan-born spinner was named in Australia's squad for the tours of the West Indies and England later this year, meaning a Test debut could be in the offing for a man who has already represented his adopted nation in one-day and Twenty20 cricket.

"First off I am very thankful to all my team and Cricket Australia selection committee that have trusted in me and selected me in the squad," Ahmed said.

"Before starting the season I really worked hard, that was my aim to play more games for Victoria, to perform well, to win more games for Victoria and being a bowler to create more opportunities rather than take wickets.

"I bowled well and it paid off now and I'm excited and I'm looking forward to it.

"If I get the opportunity to play Test matches it is going to be amazing and I would love to play for my country, I'm pretty hopeful and I can't wait to wear that baggy green and represent my country in the red ball cricket as well.

"It has been an amazing 2015 for me. We [Victoria] won the shield and I was the top wicket-taker."
