Victorian skipper Cameron White is confident star opener Chris Rogers will be fit to play in the Sheffield Shield final against Queensland starting on Wednesday at the MCG.
However White has also conceded there is a risk that Rogers could re-break his left hand if he is again struck on it while fielding.
The Bushrangers named Rogers, who has a fractured knuckle in his left hand, in their 13-man squad on Tuesday with White also returning following the completion of the one-day series in New Zealand after he was overlooked for the two Test series against the Kiwis.
Lloyd Mash is the player to make way from the 12 that beat Tasmania inside three days in the last preliminary round match last week.
White said Rogers, who scored a century in last year's winning Shield final against Queensland, batted convincingly in the nets on Tuesday.
"He seemed pretty good in the nets today so we are expecting him to be right," White said of Rogers.
"It looked like he wasn't batting in pain and all we could do was watch him bat in the nets so he looked fine to me."
However White admitted the former Australian opener could be at risk of injury in the field.
"I think he can break it again, that is the worry when he is fielding," White said.
"That is the danger for him but I think batting will be no problem for him - it's whether he cops one in the field."
The Vics are aiming for back-to-back Shield titles for the first time in 30 years as they find themselves up against Queensland in the Shield decider for the sixth time in the past 11 years.
The Bushrangers are also appearing in their seventh Shield final overall in the past 11 years and are aiming for their 28th title overall.
It is also the third successive season that they have appeared in all three domestic finals but in each of the past two seasons they have lifted just one trophy.
However after having already secured the KFC Big Bash Twenty20 title this season, even just a draw against Queensland over the next five days would see the Bushrangers lift a second title in 2009/10.
The Bushrangers also go in with an imposing record at the MCG, having won 12 of their last 15 matches there - and losing just once in that period.
While a draw would be enough, White said the Bushrangers will be aiming to win and does not believe the MCG wicket will be a batsman's paradise as it so often is in Shield finals when the home side only needs a draw to take the crown.
"It (the wicket) has got a nice tinge of green grass on there so I think it will do a bit in the first session that's for sure," White said.
"I guess it's always in the back of your mind you only need to draw the game to win the Shield final and if that is the way it turns out for us, then I am more than happy with that but of course we are going out there to win the game."
