Dazzling half-centuries to skipper Marcus North and veteran Adam Voges have put Western Australia in the box seat in their Ryobi One-Day Cup clash against Queensland.
North (93 off 95) and Voges (62 off 84) went ballistic at the Gabba, rattling the Bulls as they combined for a powerful partnership of 141 from just 132 balls.
The Warriors ended their innings at 9-284 - their highest ever one-day score in Brisbane - but after losing Shaun Marsh (7), Travis Birt (0) and Liam Davis (35) early on, such a massive total looked unlikely.
But their hard-hitting captain put on absolute clinic, smashing 12 fours and one six with the sturdy support of Voges (six boundaries) to make life difficult for the Bulls.
It was after they took WA's score to 150 when they were at their most lethal, bringing up the double century in another 33 deliveries.
Voges and North registered their half-tons in the same over - off the unfortunate Brad Ipson (0 for 51), who was smashed for 14 runs as the Warriors twisted the knife.
With the first two balls of Ipson's set, Voges found the rope and then took a single to notch his milestone.
But he was shown up three deliveries later, when North followed suit to bring up his 19th domestic half-century in the best way possible - with a huge six straight over long-on.
Andrew Robinson would have then been kicking himself after dropping Voges off the bowling of the expensive Chris Swan (0 for 64), but a short time later the veteran batsman was gone for the second run out of WA's innings.
Voges only had himself to blame as he strolled back leisurely to the crease having been sent back by North, and Ryan Broad took advantage.
With a direct hit from mid-off, the Bulls finally ended their damaging partnership - and four overs later, the chief destroyer's knock also came to a close.
North fell agonisingly short of his century, skying a full toss right at Robinson at mid-wicket, who made amends for his earlier error to give Alister McDermott (2 for 69) his second wicket.
Luke Ronchi (20 off 21) soon followed, thanks to a terrific catch by 'keeper Ben Dunk off Ben Cutting’s (4 for 68) bowling.
The young gun made light work of the Warriors' thorny tail with three wickets to go with his earlier scalp of Davis, but the brunt of the damage was already done.
