Victoria are in a dominant position at lunch on the second day of their Bupa Sheffield Shield clash with South Australia at the MCG.
The Vics hold an overall lead of 167, after progressing to 0-47 at the lunch interval as the Redbacks lower order collapsed in spectacular fashion at the hands of Andrew McDonald and Peter Siddle early on the second morning of play.
McDonald (5-21) picked up four scalps and Siddle (3-34) two as South Australia lost their final six wickets for just 19 runs in a little over an hour to be all out for a meagre total of 100 in reply to Victoria's first innings score of 220.
Chris Rogers (34 not out) and Rob Quiney (12 not out) then negotiated a sharp 40-minute session before lunch, with Rogers starting Victoria's second innings on a positive note as he looks to make up for his first ball duck on Monday.
Joe Mennie caused Quiney a few problems with his accurate line and did find the outside edge of his bat on a couple of occasions, but both chances fell wide of the trio of slip fielders.
The Redbacks resumed at 4-81 and Siddle made the first breakthrough for the day when he trapped Travis Head lbw for 2, even though replays indicated that the ball may have been swinging down the leg side.
Former Bushranger Adam Crosthwaite joined Tom Cooper in the middle and the duo struggled to find the gaps as Siddle and McDonald continued to bowl at a nagging length that yielded very few loose deliveries.
McDonald tempted Crosthwaite to chase a wide one and wicketkeeper Ryan Carters took a simple catch behind the stumps to dismiss his South Australian counterpart for a duck and Cooper followed him back to the pavilion shortly after for 15.
McDonald got one to cut back off a good length that found the inside edge of Cooper's bat and he looked back in anguish as the ball followed back on to his stumps.
At 7-90 things were looking grim for the Redbacks and, although Chadd Sayers and Mennie managed to get a few away through a vacant cover region, they didn't last much longer.
Mennie played all over a straight one from Siddle and was bowled for 3 and Carl Tietjens was McDonald's fourth victim in the ensuing over when he edged one to Peter Handscomb at third slip.
And McDonald has his fifth moments later when Peter George nicked one down the leg side to give the Victorian keeper his fourth catch of the innings and allow the hosts to take a big lead into their second dig.
On the opening day, the Redbacks rolled the Bushrangers for 220, with Mennie snaring 5-42 in an impressive display, while McDonald top scored for the hosts with a well compiled 72.
