The Bushrangers hold a 160-run first-innings lead over Tasmania after being dismissed for 382 early on day three of their Sheffield Shield at the MCG.

The last two Victorian wickets added 30 on Friday morning after Darren Pattinson and Matthew Wade resumed in fine, sunny conditions with the score at 8-352.

Pattinson added only one to his overnight score of seven when he was trapped in front by the Tigers' acting skipper Xavier Doherty, but Bryce McGain was able to stay with Wade for long enough to allow the Bushrangers 'keeper to bring up his 50.

However that was where it ended for Wade who immediately holed-out to Tim Macdonald at deep backward square leg off Doherty who returned the figures of 3-41.

Wade's half-century was his seventh for the Vics in all forms of the game and fifth in the Shield this season.

Just how the Victorians approach the remainder of this match will be determined by events at the Gabba where Queensland is battling to avoid defeat against Western Australia.

If the Bulls should happen to get off the canvass to defeat the Warriors, then Victoria will be need to press for outright points against Tassie to host the Shield final against Queensland which starts next Wednesday.

Centuries from David Hussey (140) and Aaron Finch (102) set up the Bushrangers' big innings lead over the Tigers.

Their 212-run third-wicket stand was the Bushrangers' best for any wicket this season, surpassing a stand of 181 between Chris Rogers and Brad Hodge against South Australia in Adelaide.

They middled the ball from the start and matched one another blow for blow throughout Thursday's second session in particular which produced 142 runs at a very steady pace.

Tim Paine is expected to bat in Tasmania's second innings despite picking up a side strain while batting on Wednesday.
