In-form paceman Mitchell Starc has refused to weigh in to the debate over the decision to hand former skipper Ricky Ponting the captaincy reigns ahead of vice-captain David Warner for Friday's ODI against Sri Lanka at the SCG.
Ex-Australia captain Steve Waugh caused a stir on Tuesday morning after suggesting the choice of Ponting to replace injured skipper Michael Clarke 'doesn't make sense' and is a step backwards.
But Starc dismissed the captaincy controversy as a non-issue and welcomed the chance to play under Ponting's leadership for the first time.
"I put zero thought into it and it's not my decision to make one person captain - thankfully it's not - so I'm just preparing how I want to prepare so I can get the most out of my performances," Starc said at the SCG on Tuesday.
"And I don't think it's going to make a huge impact - Davey hasn't had too much experience there but I'm sure he'll get the nod some time down the track."
"That's a selectors job and I've got no impact on that so I'm just preparing how I want to play and what they do resting players is not up to me."
He added of Ponting: "I haven't had a chance to play under Ricky as captain so it'll be a great experience for me to play under him."
"Michael's been great and obviously he's missing on Friday (with a minor hamstring injury)."
"Ricky's been a great player and he's great around the team on and off the field and through training sessions the way he goes about his preparation is first class."
"He's always happy at training to put his hand up to help the young guys, he's always talking to us when we're bowling to him in the nets as well."
"He's a class player and he's the first in to help the young guys and the last to leave training so I'm sure he'll do a great job on Friday night."
Waugh also queried selectors' decision to 'rest' veteran gloveman Brad Haddin but Starc insists Haddin's omission in favour of young-gun Matthew Wade has not rated a mention in the Australian dressing room.
"There's been no talk about it at all. Hadds is obviously a great player and has done a lot throughout his career as well, so if that is the case that he's been rested then so be it but there's been no talk around the change rooms," he said.
Meanwhile, Starc expressed his strong desire to play as many games as possible for his country.
"I don't want to be rested and I'm sure none of the other guys would want to be rested as well," he said.
"I'm not sure what's going on with the selectors, obviously Michael Hussey got rested the last game and Ryan Harris and Brad Haddin have apparently been rested this game, so I'm not sure."
"I haven't had any contact with any of the guys regarding resting or anything like that, so personally if the option was there to be rested I wouldn't be taking it."
