Sri Lanka bat first

Sri Lanka bat first

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first in their vital Commonwealth Bank Series clash with India at the Gabba on Tuesday.

The Sri Lankans will be out to replicate the all-round form and dominance exhibited in their eight-wicket demolition of Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday, knowing a win will take them into second place on the table.

Meanwhile, the Indians, who went down by 110 runs against Australia at the same venue on Sunday, will be looking to reverse their fortunes under stand-in skipper Virender Sehwag, with regular leader MS Dhoni serving a suspension for slow over rates.

Sehwag's return as captain sends Rohit Sharma out of the starting XI and back to drinks duties, while reserve keeper Parthiv Patel takes Dhoni's gloves and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been preferred over Zaheer Khan.

Storms have been forecasted for the south-east Queensland region, promising cloud cover and swing for the bowlers for as long as the field stays dry.

Sri Lanka enter with the same side that thrashed Australia in their most recent outing.

India: Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Virender Sehwag, Parthiv Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ranganath Vinay Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Irfan Pathan, Rohit Sharma (12th man).

Sri Lanka: Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara, Dinesh Chandimal, Mahela Jayawardene, Lahiru Thirimanne, Angelo Mathews, Farveez Maharoof, Thisara Perera, Nuwan Kulasekara, Rangana Herath, Lasith Malinga, Sachitra Senanayake (12th man).
