SA seeks home final

SA seeks home final

South Australia will have a home final on its mind when it tackles Tasmania in the Twenty20 Big Bash match at Adelaide Oval on Tuesday.

The Warriors' win over the Bushrangers on Sunday means the Redbacks can open up an unassailable four-point lead over the rest of the competition if it overcomes the Tigers.

South Australia's captain Graham Manou said the team were excited about what could lie ahead in the coming weeks.

"Obviously last night's result was a positive one for us and I think tomorrow night is a bit of a final for us in a sense," he said.

"If we can do the business tomorrow night then I think we are well and truly hosting the final and we don't have to worry about it when we go to Sydney."

"We've played too well in the first three games to let that slip and I think the group is pretty confident where we are at, at the moment."

Professional cricketers are generally reluctant to look too far ahead but Manou said it was hard to ignore the spoils that would come with Twenty20 success.

"In some ways you have to (look ahead). If you don’t give value to the importance of the game then I think you're discrediting yourself, the competition and the opposition team."

The key to South Australia's success continues to be its two international recruits Kieron Pollard and Shahid Afridi.

Pollard is one of three Redbacks to have scored over 100 runs in the Big Bash competition and has a strike rate of 176.66 while Afridi has taken five wickets, conceding just over six runs per over.

Manou said the Pakistani's bowling has been 'phenomenal' and added another four more 'international-class' overs to his attack.

"His bowling bamboozles everyone and it's just amazing how accurate he is and how smart he is," he said.

Tasmania would have to win its last two matches handsomely to take part in finals action and are sure to throw everything at the confident South Australians.

Captain George Bailey, who missed the team's loss to Queensland last Friday with an elbow infection, has travelled to Adelaide and would add some class to the batting line-up if he plays.

Manou said the Tigers will be a dangerous opponent.

"They've always traditionally played pretty well against us and I think the batting holds a real key up the top," Manou said.

"There bowling across the board is sensational. Brett Geeves is coming off a hat-trick in his last game and excellent performance and obviously an international bowler."

"They'll play with some real freedom because there is still some opportunities at the bottom of the table to jostle for positions."
