South Australia has dismissed key Western Australia pair Marcus North and Adam Voges to make solid inroads and leave the Warriors at 5-196 at tea on the opening day of the Sheffield Shield match at the WACA Ground.
WA openers Wes Robinson and Liam Davis made a good start with an 80-run stand, but both fell on that score and then after a partnership of 79, North was out for 29 and then Voges followed four runs later for 54.
Luke Pomersbach couldn't replicate his recent Ford Ranger Cup form which saw him score an unbeaten century for WA on Saturday to fall for one, leaving the Warriors at 5-178.
Teenager Mitch Marsh is not out on 21 and Luke Ronchi is 10.
Jake Haberfield has been the main destroyer for the Redbacks taking 3-44 from 13 overs, while all-rounder Dan Christian has 2-35.
Robinson and Davis looked solid on what was expected to be a lively WACA deck to combine for an opening stand of 80 after South Australian skipper Daniel Harris won the toss and elected to field.
Robinson has been the Warriors' most consistent batsmen in all competitions this season and was looking good again before falling on 36 when Haberfield produced a great delivery to have him caught behind by Tim Ludeman, who has the gloves with Graham Manou out with a knee injury.
Davis batted well for his 44 which included five fours and two sixes but he also fell to a good delivery from Christian and Harris took a solid catch at slip to leave the Warriors at 2-80.
That brought North and Voges together and the captain and vice-captain looked good for some time before falling in quick succession.
The Redbacks dropped a handful of catches in the Ford Ranger Cup loss to the Warriors on Saturday and James Smith again put North down when he was yet to score.
North pulled a ball from Haberfield to Smith at square leg, but he couldn't hold on.
North was desperate for runs after a lean Test series against Pakistan, but looked scratchy for 29 off 74 balls with just the one boundary before being caught in the gully by Michael Klinger as he slashed at a widish ball from Christian.
Voges was looking the pick of the batsmen moving to his half-century with seven boundaries before Haberfield had him out caught behind down the leg side.
When Pomersbach was also bowled by Haberfield when he missed an attempted shot through the on-side, the Redbacks were on top and Ronchi and Marsh were left with some work to do.
