Ponting sends NZ in again

03/13/2010 01:31:16 AM

New Zealand will bat first again after being sent in by Australian captain Ricky Ponting in the last of the Chappell-Hadlee trophy one-day internationals in Wellington on Saturday.

Ponting made it a clean sweep of coin-toss victories in the series and had no hesitation in forcing the Black Caps to bat first - something the home team is not comfortable with traditionally.

Ponting might also have had in mind potential damage to the pitch by the freak storm which blew through Wellington late on Friday afternoon.

Strong winds blew the covers from the pitch and torrential rain followed.

New Zealand made a predicted change with off-spinner Nathan McCullum coming into the side for all-rounder James Franklin, who has battled to make an impression in the series.

Australia replaced Ryan Harris, who suffered a toe injury in Auckland on Thursday, with Clint McKay.

New Zealand: Daniel Vettori (captain), Brendon McCullum, Martin Guptill, Ross Taylor, Shanan Stewart, Scott Styris, Gareth Hopkins, Nathan McCullum, Daryl Tuffey, Shane Bond, Tim Southee.

Australia: Ricky Ponting (captain), Shane Watson, Brad Haddin, Cameron White, Michael Hussey, Adam Voges, James Hopes, Mitchell Johnson, Nathan Hauritz, Clint McKay, Doug Bollinger, George Bailey (12th man).
