Pakistan defeated Afghanistan by seven wickets in the United Arab Emirates on Friday (local time), in the only one-day international between the teams.

Younis Khan's 70 not out and Imran Farhat's 52 fired Pakistan to 3-198, as they chased down Afghanistan's total of 195 all out with 77 balls to spare.

Afghanistan captain Nawroz Mangal won the toss and chose to bat at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Opener Karim Sadiq top-scored for Afghanistan with 40, while Mohammad Nabi made 37 and Samiullah Shenwari added 32.

But Mangal's side proved unable to stem a regular flow of wickets throughout their innings, as Shahid Afridi claimed an impressive haul of 5-36 from his 10 overs, while Umar Gul and Wahab Riaz had two scalps apiece.

Pakistan's run chase got off to a slow start when opener Mohammad Hafeez was dismissed for just eight in the fourth over.

No.3 batsman Asad Shafiq followed for 20 six overs later.

But surviving opener Farhat claimed a quick-fire half century from 67 balls to ignite the innings.

The arrival of Younis and captain Misbah-ul-Haq then accelerated proceedings.

The former struck 10 fours as he raced to a haul of 70 off just 65 deliveries.

Misbah, meanwhile, was no slouch as the skipper brought up 40 runs from 62 deliveries as Pakistan cruised home.

Dawlat Zadran (2-38) led the wicket-takers for Afghanistan, while Samiullah Shenwari (1-22) was the only other Afghan player to snare a victim.

Pakistan face England on Monday in the first of four ODIs between the two teams.
