New Zealand bowling coach Damien Wright believes his charges are still in with a chance of dismissing Australia on day four of the second Test despite the four-pronged pace attack failing to take a wicket before rain stopped play early on Sunday.
The tourists skittled Australia for 136 in the first innings, but were unable to remove either Dave Warner (47) or Phil Hughes (20) in the session between lunch and tea as the NSW duo combined for an unbeaten 72-run stand.
"We have to turn up tomorrow and start really well with the ball," Wright said.
"There's been a little bit of assistance in the wicket throughout the game. We know that's going to be there in the morning and Bellerive traditionally offers a little bit in the morning and it's important we come tomorrow and break this partnership."
In the three days so far, a total of 19 wickets have fallen in the first session of play and Wright believes that with some focus and application from the New Zealand attack there's no reason more wickets can't tumble before lunch on Monday.
"In this innings we certainly haven't started the way we'd like to, we've been off our lengths and overpitched a little bit, so we need to look at the stuff we did in the first innings and stick to that plan. Hopefully in the morning the guys can come and do that," he said.
"I thought we put the ball in the right area a lot of the time (in the first innings) and we built pressure and I guess for us tomorrow, looking forward, we've got to do that."
"Unfortunately for us we were just that little bit off this afternoon so that's something we've got to address and if we can challenge the Australian batters they're vulnerable, as everyone is, to that moving ball."
