Misbah wants sweep

Misbah wants sweep

Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq feels a win in the third Test, and a historic whitewash of England, would be just reward for his team's hard work.

Misbah has been at the centre of Pakistan's re-emergence on the international scene and a win in the final Test against the world's number-one ranked team would seal the country's first ever clean sweep over England.

The captain was not part of Pakistan's 35-man squad two years ago and now he finds himself leading a young side full of talent and clearly capable of matching it with the best Test sides in the world.

"If you look back to two years ago, you can say it was an inexperienced side with a lot of young players who were settling in and just coming in," the 37-year-old said.

"Just playing together now, they've played together for two years, getting experienced, getting mature and gelling well in the team."

"Everybody knows each other well and everybody understands the games and the responsibilities as to what they have to do for the team, and that's the main thing for the improvement in Pakistan cricket."

"As you play together and keep playing against good sides, you improve as a side - and that's what is happening to our side now."

Misbah said defeating the side regarded as the best in the world, and so comfortably, was a great thrill.

"Beating any team in the world is a good feeling, especially those who are top of the world," he said.

"I think it's really good for a team and really good for a nation and everybody who is associated with the cricket."

The third Test between Pakistan and England begins on Friday in Dubai.
