Bushrangers batsman David Hussey has said that if it was up to him, Victoria would probably be still batting in the Sheffield Shield final against Queensland.
The 32-year-old has painful memories of standing in the field while the Bulls compiled 6-900 at the Gabba to shut Victoria out of the Shield final of 2005-06, and now it's payback time.
Hussey was only half-joking when he branded Cameron White as 'generous' for declaring Victoria's second innings closed 45 minutes from stumps on Saturday at 8-591 in its second innings to set the Bulls the unlikely task of making 640 in 100 overs to become just the sixth 'away' team to win a Shield final.
"Really, I think it was a good declaration and I'm happy with (a lead of) 612 runs ... but I'm still a bit nervous to be honest," said Hussey with a smile.
"Cricket's a funny game, but hopefully with a few more wickets we can win the Shield game tomorrow."
"Our goal was to bat 150 overs and I think we were just shy of that."
"All credit should go to the two openers, I think they set the tone for the boys and I was lucky to cash in with Cam (White) at the end, I think."
Hussey made his mark on the match with a game-high innings of 168 on Saturday, coming off a century in last year's final as well.
Along the way, he moved to the top of the list of Shield run-scorers for the season with 970 at 57.06.
Those personal milestones are a small bonus for Hussey whose priority is to help to secure a win on Sunday.
"You always want to win the match, but Queensland are a very proud state and they don't want to lose the game to us," he said.
"Last year we drew, but hopefully we can get 10 wickets tomorrow in front of a decent crowd."
Hussey said he expects veteran leg-spinner Bryce McGain to play an important role in the fourth innings, much as Cameron Boyce was able to do on Saturday with his six-wicket haul for the Bulls.
"Hopefully Bryce can bowl over the wicket and really attack the stumps, get a lot of lbws and bring the slip into play, turn the ball and get a bit of bounce," he said.
