Forrest debut likely

Forrest debut likely

Peter Forrest's hopes of an Australian debut have been boosted by the news that Michael Hussey will be rested for the one-dayer against India at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

Hussey won't travel to Adelaide and neither will Ben Hilfenhaus who has also departed the downsized squad and is headed home to Hobart.

But Forrest, who carried the drinks during Australia's thrilling five-run win against Sri Lanka in Perth on Friday, isn't assured of a spot in the XI with precocious all-rounder Mitchell Marsh added to the 12-man squad in place of Hussey and Hilfenhaus.

Forrest has enjoyed a breakout domestic season this summer with 581 Sheffield Shield runs for Queensland at 58.10 including three centuries and a fifty.

He also hit 154 runs at 25.66 with a strike rate of 125.20 for the Brisbane Heat in their inaugural Big Bash League (BBL) campaign.

Marsh, 20, was the second leading run-scorer in the BBL with 309 at 51.50 for the Perth Scorchers and a strike rate of 121.65.

The younger brother of Test batsman Shaun has also snared 17 Shield wickets at 18.70 for Western Australia this season.

Cricket Australia will name its squad for the next phase of the Commonwealth Bank Series on Monday.

The Aussies currently sit atop the tri-series table after starting the tournament with two wins from as many matches.

Australian squad for Sunday: Michael Clarke (c), Dan Christian, Xavier Doherty, Peter Forrest, Ryan Harris, David Hussey, Mitchell Marsh, Clint McKay, Ricky Ponting, Mitchell Starc, Matthew Wade, David Warner.
