Table Tennis
Australian Team Profile
Australia's six-person table tennis team will be looking to upset the host nation's hopes of a clean sweep in China's most celebrated sport.
Since table tennis became an Olympic event in 1988, China has won 16 of the 20 gold medals awarded. Australia is yet to take home a medal.
While the home crowd will be right behind the Chinese players there will be a smattering of support for our chances at the Peking University Gymnasium.
Dual Olympians Miao Miao and Jian Fang Lay join first-time Games representative Stephanie Sang form Australia's women's team.
The trio will return to their country of birth wearing green and gold and carrying the hopes of their adopted nation.
"I am very excited about competing at the Beijing Games and very proud to be selected in the Australian team," Miao said.
"Table tennis is one of the biggest sports in China and I know all the tickets are sold out. The Chinese people will support the Chinese team, but there are also a lot of Chinese who will support me."
The men's team comprises 2004 Athens doubles partners William Henzell and David Zalcberg, and 19-year-old Kyle Davis who will make his Olympic debut.
