Taekwondo
Australian Team Profile
Australia will look to enhance its brief but prosperous history in the sport of taekwondo at the Beijing Games.
Taekwondo was a demonstration sport at Seoul in 1988 and Barcelona in 1992 before reaching full Olympic status in Sydney in 2000.
Lauren Burns won Australia's maiden gold in the women's 49kg category in Sydney while current national team coach Daniel Trenton took the men's 80kg silver before his home crowd.
Ryan Carneli (Men's Under 58kg), Burak Hasan (Men's Under 68kg), Tina Morgan (Women's Under 67kg) and Carmen Marton (Women's +67kg) will represent Australia this time out.
Western Australia's Morgan is the only athlete of the four who has previous Olympic experience.
The Athens Olympian is convinced she can medal in the tough competition.
"I have had good performances overseas and I beat the current world champion. I am getting back up there," Morgan said.
The Koreans, founders of Taekwondo, are expected to be dominant in Beijing.
