Win for Warriors, Rose stars for Bulls

The Golden State Warriors made a winning start to the NBA playoffs as Derrick Rose impressed for the Chicago Bulls.

Steph Curry had 34 points as the Warriors opened their Western Conference first round series against the New Orleans Pelicans with a 106-99 win at Oracle Arena.

Anthony Davis was simply brilliant down the stretch for the Pelicans.

The third-year pro scored a game-high 35 points, including 20 in the fourth quarter, as New Orleans roared back from a 25-point third-quarter deficit.

After a brief lead in the game's opening minutes, the Pelicans spent most of the game trailing by double digits.

They trailed 84-59 with one minute, four seconds remaining in the third quarter.

New Orleans finished the quarter on a 7-0 run, and started the fourth with the same before Curry's three-pointer ended the 14-0 stretch.

Draymond Green (15 points, 12 rebounds) and Andrew Bogut (12 and 14) both finished with double-doubles for the Warriors.

Rose's return to the playoffs could not have gone any better for him or the the Bulls as they beat the Milwaukee Bucks 103-91 in their East series.

It was Rose's first playoff game since he tore his ACL in the first round of the 2012 post-season.  

The 2011 NBA MVP had 23 points and seven assists, hitting three three-pointers as his team cruised to a win. 

Jimmy Butler finished with a game-high 25 points for the Bulls, who led by nine at half-time and held a double-digit lead for much of the second half.

The Washington Wizards needed overtime to get past the Toronto Raptors 93-86 and take a 1-0 series lead.

James Harden had 24 points and 11 assists in the Houston Rockets' 118-108 win over the Dallas Mavericks.
