Not much was expected of the Nets last season as they defied the odds to finished second behind the Toronto Raptors in the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division.
The Nets went on to reach the Conference semi-finals under rookie coach Jason Kidd, who has since departed for the Milwaukee Bucks, with Lionel Hollins his replacement.
Expectations surrounding the Nets are the same this time around but Williams, who has recovered from ankle surgery, is not fazed by the lack of attention surrounding the franchise.
"I'm definitely excited about this season. We're flying under the radar right now which is fine," said Williams.
"A lot of people aren't really paying much attention to us and we are good with that.
"We've just got to get in and work hard and we'll come together as a team quick.
"We've got a new coach which we are all excited about."
Kidd was not the only man to leave Brooklyn in the off-season, with veteran small forward Paul Pierce joining the Washington Wizards on a two-year deal.
"It's a tough loss. Paul is definitely a great player, one of the greatest players of all time so anytime you lose a guy like that - not only what he brings to the court but his leadership - it's going to affect your team," Williams added.
"That being said it is what it is. We have some guys that we've signed and brought in that can help this team win as well and that's what we're going to look forward to."
It is not all bad news though, as Williams expects 38-year-old Kevin Garnett to continue playing this season.
"I've spoken to him [Kevin Garnett]. We worked out in the gym the other day," he continued.
"I just assume he's coming back, I didn't know he wasn't coming back. I think it's more him notifying people that he's not playing.
"He looks ready to me. I know KG's competitive spirit."
