The vacant head coaching job for the New Orleans Pelicans is arguably the most desirable opportunity in the NBA this offseason. And it may be the perfect time for Vinny Del Negro to make his return to the league.

The Pelicans reportedly interviewed the former Bulls and Clippers coach earlier this week, according to Yahoo Sports.

Del Negro coached the Bulls to consecutive .500 records and playoff appearances before being dismissed after the 2009-10 season. The Clippers then moved in and hired Del Negro, who led the team to a 128-102 record and two playoff appearances in three seasons before being replaced by Doc Rivers after the 2013 year.

Since leaving Los Angeles, Del Negro has been an analyst on NBA TV.

Warriors assistant Alvin Gentry and Jeff Van Gundy have also been linked to the opening.
