UTEP coach Tim Floyd suspended for one game by Conference USA

After getting ejected in the second half of Thursday night's game against Louisiana Tech, UTEP basketball coach Tim Floyd has been suspended by Conference USA for the team's final conference road game of the season Saturday.

Floyd was told his suspension was for not leaving the floor in a timely fashion after being ejected for arguing a foul call in the Miners' 77-60 loss.

"(Floyd) failed to immediately leave the playing court area. According to the conference’s standards of conduct, and delay or contrary action following an ejection will result in an automatic suspension from the following contest," the conference released in a statement

Floyd, who began his career as an assistant at UTEP under Hall of Famer Don Haskins in 1977, said he was frustrated with the conference's ruling.

"It's a much softer world than when I started coaching 29 years ago," Floyd told the El Paso Times. "Apparently, the conference office does not feel that I have completed the transition into this new world."

UTEP (19-8, 11-4) will look to stand alone in second place in C-USA as it battles Southern Miss (8-19, 3-13) Saturday. Assistant Phil Johnson will coach the team in Floyd's absence.
