Steph Curry delivers on amazing 2009 promise to Warriors fans

Six years ago, the franchise was in turmoil, they had started the season with multiple huge losses and their star player Monta Ellis was disgusted with their rookie draft pick, Steph Curry.

This was three years before Aussie centre Andrew Bogut brought defensive grunt to the team and Curry was struggling.

His size was making it extremely difficult for him to defend with opposition teams consistently targetting him.

On one particular night mid-way through the season Curry had a terrible game scoring just 6 points in 21 minutes on the court. What he did after is now written in sporting folklore.

Instead of hiding away from the spotlight or getting down on himself, Curry instead decided to commit to his team, his fans and their dream of NBA success.

The Warriors finished that season 25-56 but began moving in the right direction soon after.

They went through a number of roster changes, four head coaches and heaps of losses. Steph Curry is the only surviving member of those times.

Now, in an MVP season where he has smashed shooting records, Curry has led the Warriors to their first conference title since 1975 and is just one series win away from an NBA Championship.

He has delivered on his promise.
