Rick Barnes confirmed Tuesday he will take over as Tennessee's head coach, according to multiple reports.

Sporting News reported Monday that a deal was  "in the works." A news conference is scheduled later Tuesday to formally make the announcement.

Barnes brings a lot of success with him to the Volunteers. During his 17 years in Texas he took the Longhorns to 16 NCAA Tournament appearances. He compiled a 402–180 record while at Texas. It will be a quick transition for Barnes, as he was dismissed by Texas Saturday.

The veteran coach will provide a nice foundation for a program that needs it. Tennessee fired its coach, Donnie Tyndall, after one season because of unethical conduct from his former job at Southern Mississippi.
