Reggie Redding starred for Alba Berlin on Wednesday as they boosted their Euroleague quarter-final hopes with an 80-72 victory over Zalgiris Kaunas.

The guard took centre stage with top-scorer Jamie McLean out injured, Redding scoring 27 points, seven rebounds and five assists to help his side to a much-needed Top 16 win.

Berlin controlled proceedings throughout the Group E match, with a 22-point second quarter helping them to a 42-37 lead at the halfway stage.

That advantage became 11 points going into the final 15 minutes, and although Zalgiris cut the deficit slightly before the end, they were unable to avoid a sixth defeat.

Victory moves Berlin (4-5) closer to fourth-placed Panathinaikos (5-3) in the table, but they will need to maintain this form for the remainder of the group if they are to climb into the top four.

"This was a big win and a great game for us against a big opponent," said coach Sasa Obradovic.

"We did a good job on defence and offensively some players who struggled in the games load really stepped up.

"We kept our chances alive for the next round but we cannot dream too much about that right now."
