Gasol was at his dominant best, posting a game-high 26 points, nine rebounds and three blocks as Spain toppled Brazil 82-63 in Group A action in Granada on Monday.

The new Chicago Bulls recruit is averaging the most points in the tournament so far with 23.7 in the midst of Spain's three-game winning run.

And Orenga is delighted to see Gasol starring on home soil after enduring some tough times in the NBA.

"The two years Pau was criticised in the NBA were unfair," he said post-game. "He is the one of the best in the world in his position.

"He is very versatile and has always shown his face.

"Pau is physically fit, happy, quiet, comfortable, and playing in the position where he thinks is best for him.

"I see very well and I think will continue to improve."

Spain are already being touted as a potential champion after winning their opening three games but Orenga has kept his head out of the clouds with two group fixtures still remaining.

"You have to face what you are, but we have our feet on the ground. Now we have France and then Serbia and from there we'll talk," said Orenga.

"The championship is a little crazy and you have to go slowly."
