With 23 games left in the regular season, the Nuggets' 20-39 record rated as the 13th best in the 15-team Western Conference. Now, they’re without a head coach.

Denver fired head coach Brian Shaw, according to Yahoo Sports. Shaw had a 56-85 overall record in two seasons in Denver. He came to the team after serving as a longtime assistant for the Lakers and Pacers.

The Nuggets have lost 19 of their last 21 games and haven’t won at home in six weeks. Assistant Melvin Hunt will take over as interim coach, according to Yahoo Sports.

Previously, Shaw had communication issues with his team and admitted that he bought books about millennials to better relate to players. He had multiple tense locker room run-ins with point guard Ty Lawson, according to Grantland's Zach Lowe.

Shaw, who built strong relationships with stars like Paul George and Kobe Bryant, is likely to land on his feet as an assistant. Another example of those strong relationships came when Pacers forward David West was asked about Shaw's firing. When reached by Pacers reporter Scott Agness, West did not hold back his feelings.
