The Africans posted an 82-75 victory over Puerto Rico on Sunday to claim their first win at the showpiece since 1998.

Senegal lost all five games they played on their last appearance on basketball's biggest stage, in Japan in 2006, although they ran several opponents close eight years ago, notably Puerto Rico and Italy.

On Sunday, power forward Mouhammad Faye led from the front with 20 points to end that barren run, as Senegal bounced back from an opening Group B loss to Greece.

They will next face Croatia in Seville, and Ndoye is calling for his team-mates to continue their run.

"We've been chasing this for a long time. In Japan, we almost had it," he told FIBA.com.

"It's better to get the win this year. We have good guys here. We've been working together since 2010 and it's a great thing to be part of the history of Senegal basketball."
