Melo Trimble was the driving force behind Maryland's breakout campaign, and he'll be back to try and make the Terps even better next season.

The All-Big Ten guard and USBWA Freshman All-America selection will remain in school for his sophomore year, coach Mark Turgeon announced Wednesday.

“I am excited about spending another year with my teammates and building on what we accomplished this year,” Trimble said in a statement. “I want to thank Coach Turgeon for helping my mom and I through this process. This was the best decision for me.

"Being a member of the Maryland basketball program has been an unbelievable experience and I can’t wait to be back in front of the best fans in college basketball next season.”

Trimble led the Terps and ranked seventh in the Big Ten with 16.2 points per game while also leading the conference in free throw shooting at 86.3 percent.

The Maryland native arrived in College Park with high expectations and managed to lift the team along the way. Writers covering the conference picked Maryland to finish eighth in the Big Ten but the Terps ended up second only to Wisconsin.

That earned the school's first NCAA bid since 2010, but the fourth-seeded Terps fell to No. 5 seed West Virginia in the third round.
